Highmark Health Senior Risk Management Consultant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania



The Risk Management department is responsible for the enterprise-wide corporate risk management framework, and conducting quantified risk analysis related to the strategic plans of the enterprise; supports the management of downside risk to the enterprise; , and supports the optimization of risk taking in business decision; and is responsible for the enterprise-wide corporate fraud program.

Corporate Risk Team members are lead contributors in all aspects of the corporate risk process and internal corporate fraud program, to include work status, monitoring, development of tactical procedures as it relates to the corporate risk assessment or fraud/abuse exposures, risk management strategy development, documentation of risk assessments and mitigation strategies, plan & control monitoring, tactical & project risk consulting, emerging risk evaluation and completion of compliance certification & filings. This also includes executing employee education on both strategic risk management and internal fraud & abuse.

As senior members of the Risk Management Department, the Corporate Risk Team members support customers by providing objective risk analysis through a quantitative process that links risks to the enterprise risk appetite. This includes the development of risk shock scenarios using internal and external resources. In the internal corporate fraud program, they provide detail exposure analysis that may include the development of detective procedures or preliminary investigation of potential fraud & abuse.


  1. Collaborate with other members of the team and business owners, and provide experience to:

• Identify risks to successful completion and execute strategies to ensure that milestones are achieved while adhering to strict deadlines

• Execute the corporate risk & internal fraud initiatives on time and in accordance with the budget in an effective and efficient manner

• Identify and provide recommendations for process improvements to enhance corporate risk & internal fraud/abuse preparedness

• Prepare and provide status reporting on assignments to management on a recurring scheduled basis and as necessary.

• Manage other ancillary projects, as assigned.

• Establish and maintain relationships with business owners in a variety of departments and subsidiaries within Highmark

• Work closely with users of corporate risk information including the Internal Audit Function and Financial Forecasting.

• Interacts with business unit leadership and other management & staff across Highmark and Subsidiaries

Additional responsibilities for Senior Consultant:

• Supports the development and maintenance of training programs for corporate risk and internal fraud/abuse education

  1. Corporate Risk and Internal Fraud program implementation and facilitation:

• Demonstrate and apply a thorough understanding of Highmark’s complex business processes and environment

• Demonstrate and apply strong project management skills, inspire teamwork and responsibility with team members, and use current technology and tools to enhance the effectiveness of deliverables

• Provide leadership role and collaborate with other members of the team to plan the project and develop work programs timelines, risk assessments, and other planning documents

• Provide leadership role, work with, assist and guide business management and staff at Highmark and subsidiaries through all phases of the corporate risk process and internal fraud program in order to ensure results consistent with the master corporate risk management plan and in light of methods, templates and tools developed by the team to ensure standardization and effectiveness of work across various departments and subsidiaries.

• Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of skills noted above in order to visualize, articulate and solve highly complex problems/issues

  1. Progress Monitoring/Status Reporting.

• The position is responsible for the monitoring of the progress against the master plans for corporate risk and the internal fraud program for various departments and subsidiaries.

• Prepare and provide status reporting to management and team on a recurring scheduled basis and as necessary.

• Responsible for deviations from the work plan and for the development of alternative solutions when faced with impediments and obstacles.

• Bachelors’ degree.

• 10-15 years of related progress experience in the area of specialization including experience in leading large projects

• Experience with risk assessment based functions (such as enterprise risk management, business continuity planning, section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, Model Audit Rule, external or internal audit, etc.)

• Project management experience

• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills

• Leadership, teamwork and client service experience


• Master's Degree

• CPA certification

• CISM, CBCP, CIA, CFE or ARM certifications

• Experience with finance related activities (such as financial reporting, forecasting or operational accounting)
